  The benefits of recycling
  • Saves money: Recycling is generally less expensive than hazardous waste disposal.
  • Satisfies legal and regulatory requirements: When you recycle computer and office electronics through CDDR, a New York State-registered recycling facility, you receive a C7 Notification of Recycling.
  • Diverts waste from landfills: Computers and office electronics are bulky items that contain toxic materials. Disposal of these devices drives up the rate at which landfills will reach their capacity, and the toxins can contaminate ground water, creating health and environmental hazards.
  • Conserves energy: It usually takes less energy to make recycled products; for example, recycled aluminum requires 95 percent less energy than is required to make new aluminum from bauxite ore.
  • Reduces the need for strip mining: When recycled, computers can be used as a source of precious metals and materials that can be reused or found in circuit boards, power supplies, etc. About five percent of the annual production of gold goes into e-production.
  • Creates jobs: The recycling process creates far more jobs than those created through maintaining landfills or incinerators.
